Mapping: can you unfold/fold a certain group of track with a key?

Hi,

When I DJ with ableton I have all of my tracks collected in two groups. One for the softer music and one for the more energetic. In each group there are 3-4 tracks. While I mix I want to have them collapsed but in when I browse I want to stroke a key and the library should unfold...

Now I wonder,

Is there a way to map (key/midi) the fold/unfold button of the grouped tracks? Or do you have any other suggestions of how to keep the library nice and clean?

Thanks,

Charlie

Regarding your mapping question, i have to say, No, you cant. If you map the Collapse button, you are only choosing which track of the opened group you should concentrate on.

If the intention is to have all the tracks you are pretending to play during a performance, i recommend you to put them into 2 Separate Muted Audio Tracks, by doing this you wont be able to play by mistake any track into your Queue. At the same time you will be able to CUE the tracks before you move them to the main Tracks.

You can use Colours, you can use dummy clips to enter words, and many more help tips for your own reference during performances.

Go to the grouped track with the arrow keys on your keyboard, then press Shift & + (on Mac anyway). If you want to close the group; make sure the group is selected and press -.

If you really want to assign this function to a single button, you can use some key-command to midi-software like Midi-Ox and assign a key-combination to one single button on a controller. But in this case you still have to select the right Group first, so you might as well use the way I described first.

If you have an APC40 or APC20 controller; you can open or collapse tracks or groups bij selecting the corresponding button on the APC and keep that button pressed for a few seconds.

It seems in Live 8.2.6 it's + and - (without shift, and on German keyboard layout). but no ability to assign MIDI.

I second that request.... Wile performing a live set... The way I have been setting things up... I sometimes use 6 or 7 separate tracks per song to perform with... Im sure there is a better way.... But I like to collapse the tracks into groups, keeping the screen more manageable and also giving me more launch options....... Key mapping doesnt seem t work for the teeny triangle .... Searching.......
