Live 9 issues with "back to arrangement" button

Is anyone else having issues with live 9's "back to arrangement" or "re-enable automation" button?

I find sometimes when I click it nothing happens, it stays lit up and the automation lane stays greyed out instead of reverting to a pink line.

The only way I can find to get it back to normal is to right click the parameter in question and delete that automation and start again.

Very frustrating! Anyone else having a similar issue?

I wish they would completely throw out this. Its been useful maybe once or twice in all the years of using Ableton. When thinking about it, I can't tell you how many times I've had to re-render entire projects because this button will randomly be 'lit up' after opening the project fresh.

Know quite a few producers and engineers that use Ableton on a daily basis - nobody I know uses this 'feature', and they all complain about it.

Could you try checking to see if you have a controller sending MIDI data to Ableton? It could also be specific VSTs as some instruments with NI's Reaktor wreak havoc on a project with the back to arrangement button which requires a deep dive to fix it.

Live 9.0.5 it works as it always has on previous versions for me.

It's one of those things that is either useful or a hindrance and now it has been moved to the master channel I overlook this too sometimes and wonder "Why the hell is that beat carrying on now when I just edited that track..."

I actually find it hell useful as I use both arrangement and clip view to create. The main thing I like is being able to kick a single track out of arrangement to test a new pattern by simply hitting a launchpad button. I have a BTA button on the mackie so it's simple to kick back to arrangement as that button glows when out of arrangement anywhere.

I am also having serious issues with the 'Re-enable Automation' button. I have recorded some parameter automation into the arrange window but whenever I try to play it back the 'Re-enable Automation' button lights up and the automation turns from red to grey and is not played back. Whenever I click on the re-enable automation button during playback it turns off for less than a second and then comes back on instantly, so it is impossible for me to play back recorded automation.
Someone suggested on another forum that it could be a faulty midi controller sending a signal to Live which made it think the parameter was being tweaked during playback, but this issue still occurs without any midi controllers connected. I have just bought a midi controller and I can't use it to edit any parameters properly, this is so frustrating!

    Hey All

I plugged in another keyboard and it was active in the Midi Prefs. When I disconnected it the automation seemed to correct itself

Had the same problem today, the way I got it working was to click a scene in clip mode, play it. Then stop. Then in the Master Bus, which I guess is where the button is in Live 9, I clicked on the button, and went to arrangement and played it.

This has been a point of confusion for me for years as I never really use this / have a need for this.

I had this issue. I was using lemur for midi control and recording the automation. When I played it back all the automation would black out. I turned off the midi output in preferences. Everything was fine after that.

I have am having the exact same issue of the, Re- Enable automation turning on randomly and then not turning off. I am using no plug-ins, and no midi controllers/ mapping. It is extremely frustrating and really coming in the way of my production. What I cannot understand is that it seems like this issue has been coming up for several people for past couple of years and still Abelton hasn't come up with a real reliable fix. This is a pretty basic feature, to be able to work with automation envelopes in arrangement view and I wonder how other people are getting by. The last message was 7 months ago, if there is any development in this please share here.. Also does anyone know if this problem established as an Max for live 9 issue?

    Thanks so much!!

I was having the same problem. The main issue was due to the way I had my midi out configured. It was sending conflicting messages with my Jazzmutant Lemur. You just have play with it a bit. I haven't had an issue since

This problem is caused by "unexpected' MIDI information coming in as you play back the arrangement.  The solution is to remove the source of the incoming MIDI else Live will think you're trying to 're-automate' the automation - which is actually a very handy feature.  If they didn't have this feature, the complaints would be far worse.

So check incoming MIDI.  Most of the cases I've found I didn't want MIDI being sent in this way anyways and it was something I could easily fix.  Also check any IAC routings and certainly for MIDI FB loops.  You may also have a faulty (or poorly implemented) MIDI controller which is sending out information despite any movement on your part.

    Work around:

Launch a row of scenes in Session View and then hit the Back to Arrangement Button again. It should go off this time and all should play according to the automation as it's written.

The only thing i have found to fix this problem is to delete all of your midi mapping. But that is a total hassle and just bloody stupid.
