Live 9 browser issues

I don't get any entries in the right pane of live 9's browser when I click on "sounds". All other tabs work as they are supposed to, however. Also, when adding folders to "places", sometimes they work and sometimes they also come up empty. Has anyone else encountered any similar problems?

I have a massive library of samples, instruments and drum racks I've collected and built.

The only way I seem to be able to find them is under "Live 8 Library".

CMD-F doesn't yield any useful results.. just lame synthy operator patches.

I thought Live 9 suite would come with a pile of new sounds and instruments.

Can't even find this "convolution reverb" i'd like to check out.

Until I get the browser working, the money was wasted on the Live 9 upgrade.

The new browser is a serious problem. All of my handmade and purchased instruments and racks/presets are buried in Live 8 Library/Presets. This is where my previous (live8) library; it's not integrated with the new (live9) library.

I figure this is not the way the Ableton folks wanted their new browser to go down. There are lots and lots of issues with it. Hopefully, there will be an official set of fixes soon!!

If you are on Windows, try this:

Go to your Windows "Temp" directory and delete the "index-args.txt" file. I was just instructed to try this by Ableton and it fixed the problem. When I looked at the timestamp of the file, it was dated March of 2013 which was right around the time I installed the beta version of Live 9. Might be connected to that.

    C:\Windows\TEMP\index-args.txt

A new "index-args.txt" file will be created after you launch Live 9.

Partly figured out: initially I installed Live 9 to a folder on a second hard drive rather than the default location.  Uninstalled and reinstalled to the default location now "sounds" works great!

Still not recognizing some folders when using "add folder" to places however.

I have a similar issue. Tech support suggested I reset Ableton but no luck. Now waiting for them to investigate. Also getting AbletonIndex.exe stopped working...?

I've also noticed this for the first time today. This didn't happen a few days. Keenly waiting for a solution.

My Ableton Index .exe has stopped working, I uninstalled Live 8, does this have anything to do with it? Also I migrated ALL of my libraries and packs to my custom folder on another hd..

it's really disorientating, when you know you have just saved a loop, sound or something into the project you're working on and Live won't show it unless you restart the programme, grrr

I too cannot access any of my own sounds (wav, aiff, rex) from any of the folders that I add to the "Places" area of the left sidebar. The first folder will be added but nothing will show in the "Name" area upon clicking on the folder I added. I've tried a couple of things already that didn't work, like renaming my Preferences.cfg file and entire database folder/restarting Live 9.0.6. I also shut off my anti-virus software, made sure all my file extensions were showing, dragging folders over that ONLY contained .wav files, I mean I tried EVERYTHING.

I even uninstalled/reinstalled Live 9, also removed the version 8 beta (64-bit) and no luck. I noticed also that when I add my sound content hard drive which is installed internally on a 10k RPM hard drive, Live does not scan it. If I add a folder, and then drag and drop the same files in the folder from the Explorer window directly on the folder I added in Places, I get copies of those same wav files and THOSE will show up with "copy of..." prefixing each file name. Why will it show those but not the originals? Very, very odd behavior indeed.

The browser worked great in previous versions up until 9. It seems to have broken with the update. If I click "Show in Explorer" I can certainly browse the secondary drive that holds all my sounds, but that's hardly ideal. I really need to be able to preview and have quick access to everything as before.

    I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with 16 GB RAM and Live 9.0.6

I did send an email to support but it's been a few days.

    @Hypermind

what would be the benefit of doing this over just deleting the greyed out folder and adding it again? This is what I do when the problem arises.
