Launchpad mini and red box in session view problems

I have been pulling my hair out because other users seem to get the launchpad to work with ease. I have re-watched set up tutorials over and over to see where I might be going wrong but I don't understand. The red box in session view doesnt appear - thus cannot use launchpad mini as a control surface.

 

-I have downloaded ableton live 9 lite

-Plugged in launchpad mini (it lights up)

-Preferences |launchpad|launchpad mini|launchpad mini|

- launchpad mini input and output on

-red box around the session control SOMETIMES appears (flickers) and goes away. If I keep clicking the input and output on and off it sometimes reappears.

It mostly doesn't appear, therefore I cannot use the launchpad.

Why? Help?

    i would return it i thinks your launchpad might be defective

    I have the same issue, just got my mini yesterday and basically followed all the videos and pdf instructions. Defective Mini also?

    hi there.
    I have also had exactly the same issue. Was advised to upgrade to the latest version of live 9 which I did and I use os maverick. Novation were even willing to exchange my unit and tested the one I returned and they said they had no issue either. I was sent a replacement but still the same problem persists.
    I tried running 64 bit live 9 suite with this....

    somebody please help as I have spent the same amount of time trawling through the tutorials and speaking to tech support at novation

    GUYS A MASSIVE BREAKTHROUGH.

    I completely uninstalled my live 9 suite and did a complete reinstall and this worked. The red boxes now appear and the lights on my unit are now up and ready.

    Try this if you're still having problems.
