Is it impossible to have more than one folder open at a time in Ableton 9 browser?

I like to be able to have my folders open, 9's close automatically now...

Flipping thru plugins has become more difficult which is a shame, those are tools and no workman wants to constantly close his toolbox.

That is a programatic change that has occurred across the entire gui interface. You can always only have one folder open. You might be able to ask Ableton to change this back, because I can see how this might be helpful if you are trying to organize clips or samples, but really if you are doing that you are just using Ableton as a glorified 'finder' or 'explorer' application.

There might be something, but you will probably have to ask Ableton what can be changed.

I have a large, categorized collection of audio clips/loops, and I often want to have (for example) a drum loop folder open and a bass loop folder open simultaneously in the browser so I can quickly preview one and then the other as I mix and match.

I work primarily in the Arrange view, as I work for film & TV, and the linear nature suits that workflow.

At the very least, one would think this could be optional, no?

I guess not. I have found nothing about changing this back to how it was before. however you can fairly easily just put another folder into the browser and hotswap sounds that you load into sampler.

Just trying to figure out different ways for you to utilize options in Live but in the end you've got to do what suits you.

You can also use finder windows and just preview them via the space bar. It's kind of cool because whenever you select a new sound it automatically plays it even when you're switching between windows.

...unless you have a pc. :D

If you ctrl-click the triangle, previously opened folders stay open.

I'm running Live Suite 9.0.4. on Windows 64 Bit Ultimate.

it does! thank you very much Dave_2000
if this is true, which i cannot try out at the moment, then the following should naturally occur:

    Dear Ableton,
please add a preference under files and folders that would allow an individual to choose whether or not the user has to control + click in order to keep folders open in the browser.

    thank you

One issue is if you then click without pressing ctrl, existing open folders then close. So you have to remember to keep ctrl-clicking to retain previously open folders. It's a start anyway, and I like your suggestion of making it a user preference.
