How do I start recording a clip at a certain point in a song

Hi - is there a way of setting up Ableton so when I record a clip it will wait until I hit the first key on my midi keyboard before recording.
thanks.

Why don't you just record from whatever point you play the track? You can always trim the empty part of the midi clip off afterwards if you want yo keep your project tidy, and midi files take only tiny bits of disc space so there's really no reason that I can think of to not just record from whatever point you start playing the track. Or am I missing something?

I don't think so but why do you want this, what problem are you trying to solve? Maybe I can help.

ok - well I want to have a track on constant standby so while the other tracks are playing i want the track to record only when i play something on the keyboard and not before - kind of like a 'snap' record.

appreciate the response. Well yes I just wanted to see if there was a way of not having to trim clips all of the time.
