Edit a note's MIDI channel assignment

Am I missing something?  I'd like to use Ableton to edit standard MIDI files.  One of the things I need to edit is individual note midi channel assignments.  Is there no way in Ableton to change a note's channel assignment? I seem to be able to edit everything else about a note but I can't figure out how to edit the channel.

You can't.  The idea of all MIDI channels being in a single track is not a concept that Live supports.

crazy.  i want to do this to have a single track that contains all the notes i want to hit... so i can edit the notes in one place.  but then assign them to a different synth based upon just assignment.  there are workarounds, but this seems pretty basic.

    This is so unfortunate...

I have the Nord Drum Pad 3 and each of the 6 pads is a different MIDI Channel. This means that if I want to use it with Drum Rack, I would need to create 6 MIDI tracks, assign each one to a different MIDI channel and play seamlessly... :(

I hope this will be fixed in Ableton 10.
