Does Live 9 no Longer Import N.I. .nki's?

When I try to import .nki's into Sampler it freezes at "preparing to import" --Stone cold dead....

Is there a new way or work around for this?

by the way... ableton.. people like me email you a question.. then google this.. see you've done nothing to answer it and get SO FED UP.. what is wrong with you?  is ableton about to go bust? your bugs and customer service are the worst I've ever experienced... these are often signs of companies that have checked out and don't care..

9.0.3 has many problems. this may be a symptom of one of them. try going back to 9.0.2. if that doesn't work i am not sure what is up. i didn't even know that it could take nki files. good to know.

Actually I might have the answer to this. As of recent Kontakt Instruments come along with the NCW lossless format for the multisamples instead of WAV. I think Ableton's Sampler crashes when dealing with these kind of files.

Ableton Inc. please update Sampler so that it reads NCW also!

Install Kontakt 3.0.1 and save your nki`s as patch + samples with it. This nki`s can be imported to Live 9.

Live still hangs when trying to import unsupported NKI's.  Please fix this annoying problem.

2 years and still no resolution.  This problem happens when importing Kontakt NKIs from Kontakt 4 and 5.

Could you not at least add a check to see if you are going to be able to import the file? Rather than hang horribly?  or possibly add a timeout?

Seems like client-facing hangs based on improperly supported (legacy) functionality should always be in the "us to actually fix this" camp, even if it is just to fix the horror story hang and subsequent inescapable crash.   Good fortune, genuine shame this no longer works.

4.2.1 was about 6 years ago?

I love Ableton and it's a wonderful product, very stable.  I admit that .nki support fix would be very helpful.  Just crashed mid-project while 'preparing to import.

That shame - I have the same issues - Ableton Freeze - and reading forums and news.

This feature to import Kontakt nki do not work, i wrote also to ableton for a solution, but no answer.

    I should keep my kontakt.....

Hi everybody, just a little heads up on this one.

Native Instrument changed the .nki format with Kontakt 4.2.2, and since then our Sampler can not read these files properly anymore.

We have filed a story in our backlog to track this issue, but currently we are unsure, whether it is for us to actually fix this.

Every .nki file from a Kontakt version prior to 4.2.2 should import just fine.

We hope this could at least explain things a little better.

    Best,

    David

    I'm with twobob on this.

At a minimum, a pop up alert message telling the user "Hell no, Ableton does not import Kontakt .NKI files! Go away." (Paraphrase that how you wish.)

Best case scenario, bring BACK the functionality allowing .nki and other Kontakt formats to function in Ableton! Personally, I despise having to use Kontakt for anything. IMHO, getting libraries to function well in Kontakt is an unstable roll of the dice every time. Beyond that, the file sizes are unnecessarily over bloated taking up both CPU power and hard drive space. However, there are some unique third party sounds I would find occasionally useful. Having a way to bypass using Kontakt 5 and load third party Kontakt sample libraries in Ableton's Sampler or Drum Rack would be awesome. I don't care if it needs to happen via a Max 4 Live plugin. PLEASE bring this back.

If by some chance Ableton has made an effort to correct this issue in the 3 years since this thread has appeared, could someone direct me to a workaround to loading Kontakt libraries (post version 4.2.6yearsold) into Ableton 9.7.1?

Native Instrument .nki files are not supposed to be used outside of Kontakt, if they've ever worked elsewhere in the past this is pure luck...  otherwise everyone will be downloading torrents of NI Kontakt instruments to use them in Live...  I think it makes sense that it doesn't work and it also confirms why support have not responded to these questions.

How about loading your legit Kontakt plugin and running your instruments as they have been designed to run? Just a thought.
