Can I use vst effects in an ableton effects rack?

Hi there,

I'm still learning the program, I'm migrating from Cubase.  I'm just learning about live effects and using the effects rack at the moment.  However, I'm getting some strange behaviour when using vst plugins (my waves doubler for example) in the effects rack.

a) Am I doing something stupid? or,

b) Is the ableton effects rack limited to the 'in-house' plugins

I'd really like to use my (expensive!) waves plugins with the effects rack, as I'm very keen on using live effects with my music.  I'd be most grateful for any pointers, if indeed this is something ableton can do.

Many thanks

Mike

Should not be a problem, simply drag your VST onto the track, open the Track View, left-click or CMD-click on the name bar of the Ableton VST GUI (not the plug-in's own edit window) and select 'Group'. This will add your VST to a group aka effect rack, then you can add more plugin's to that chain buy dragging and dropping or create a new chain(s) in that group and add more there. You should read the manual section about 'Chains' it will get you straight into one of the most powerful features of Ableton.
