Can I use the chain selector as a momentary button?

Hey all

I'm trying to emulate "The Finger" in Ableton live using the audio effect rack, effects and the chain selector. Everything is working except that I want that every time I press a key the chain selector jumps to that effect but when I released the key the chain selector return to his original state which in this case, a dry chain. So, Can I controller the chain selector with momentery buttons?

Great question and that would be nice . but you could very easily just have one key that sets the chain position to a dry or blank part of the chain . it does require another key press to reset the effect to dry but its not that bad really . I hope someone else knows an answer cause that would be fun . something that ableton should really add to racks is assignable toggle buttons .

You can use momentary controls to set the position of the chain selector, however you are limited to using only a single control to set the position to two fixed locations since, unlike notes, you can't assign a range of CC messages to a control. Another approach you could take though would be to map momentary controls to the On/Off control for each of the chains in your rack.
