From what I understand you're trying to chop a song up into loops and then trigger them with the pads on your MPK.

Whilst you could use a drum rack or sampler for this I think you would be better off using the session view:

Take the track you want to chop up and put it on a track in the arrange view. Check that it's warped correctly, I do this by looping the playback in the arrange view and then moving the loop around to various parts to ensure it plays back smoothly.

Once you're sure it's warped properly you'll want to start chopping it into it's various sections (I do this by moving the cursor to the point I want to cut at and hitting cmd + E). This will involve some trial and error finding the right parts to cut depending on how experienced you are - remember to check they loop OK. You may also want adjust warping mode (see

Once the parts are chopped up in the arrangement view, copy and paste them into slots of a track in the session view. You can then map the clips to pads on your controller using midi map mode. Go into midi map mode by selecting the little button that says midi in the top right corner, then select a clip then hitting the pad you want to trigger it with. Hit the midi button again to leave mapping mode.

You should now be able to hit pads and trigger clips for the different sections of your track. Depending on the length of the clips, you may adjust the trigger quantize so that the clips start and end in time.

Im not sure if I understand you right but I think what you are trying to do is to play several parts of your track by pressing different keys on your midi keyboard to re-arrange a track (?)

Just move the track you´d like to re arrange into an audio track in arrangement view. Afterwards slice the track into e.g. several 16 BAR - pieces. To do this just click to Bar 17 in the arrangement vie, then press strg+e to make a cut. Do the same in BAR 33, 49, 65, 81 and so on. When you´ve cut the whole track into 16 Bar-pieces, press strg+a, then strg+x and then move to session view and paste the 16 BAR-pieces into an audio track by pressing strg+v.

Afterwards open a new midi track, drag the drum rack into it and move each 16-Bar-piece into one field of the drum rack.

Now make sure, that the midi channel with the drum rack is in record mode and your midi controller is in octave 1. Now you should be able to play every part you like by playing the corresponding midi-piano-key.

Could you please rephrase the question?  I do not really understand what you are really trying to say.

if you really would like to chop it in very small pieces, like drum per drum you need to cut the track in more pieces first. because you just can have 128 slices in 1 drumrack (midi limitation).

after you have cutted your track into (i don`t know how long the song is and how short you want the slices) some parts you can click on each clip (rightclick) and choose "slice to new MidiTrack"! there you can choose how long the slices are (you can cut by transients, 1/32,1/16.........) and finished

but i wouldn`t recommend to slice a whole track!

I want to take this old song and put it on ableton. After that i would like to chop it up like you would to a drum loop. I would like instructions on how to do that.

i was watchen videos guides and stuff and was trying to make a preset like the one video was showing... and it said to drag drum rack to open space.....  well i use to be able to do that. Now, drum rack seems to be a folder with presets in it ... so i don't know how to make presets... anymore

i'd just like some information on these issues im having im on windows 7

hope this helps a little better
