ableton 9 suite hangs when initialising

Was previously using Ableton 8 on PC and worked ok.  Now upgraded to 9 Suite on iMac.  My soundcard is Focusrite Saffire 6 USB.  Now approximately every other time I log into Live the system just hangs.  I am getting a message "Ableton 9 initialising" but it doesn't and I have to restart computer and restart Live.

Has anybody else had this problem or does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot

I talked to some other musicians using ableton 9 and they all have the same problems. Dropouts, crackling noises when using other Vst's (f.e. adjusting threshold), intialising takes really long (has nothing to do with the new "Places". Very unstable in general when it comes to 3 Party Plugs, even those who worked perfect in Live 8. The overall impression is that Live 9 is still more Beta and has some serious issues.
I know this doesn't help, but chances are good that its not your all systems but Ableton 9. Sorry to say...

I agree, seems to have very poor performance compared to Live 8 on my MBP 2.7Ghz i7 with 16Gb ram and hybrid drive (and this is quite high spec !)

I cannot run more than 8 tracks or so with minimal plugins until it grinds to a halt for no apparent reason. It will run at about 30% cpu for a while, then for no reason spike to over 100%

The same projects run in Live 8 without issues

See my recent post that I have had no reply about

    Good luck

Well, I´m on a PC running Win7 and updated to Ableton 9 aswell, and it also takes forever to initialise and to load a new arrangement.

Same Here. I'm running 9.0.2 on an intel mac pro 6 core 12gb of ram os x version 10.8.2. It takes forever to start up live and even longer trying to load session. Never had this issue with live 8 my problem with live 8 is that it kept crashing all the time. I feel like I'm a beta tester!!

I'm having the same problem on an iMac w 4GB at OSX level 10.8.2 - I've had v9.0.2-32 bit for about 3 weeks now and it has worked until today. It gives the splash screen and then freezes with the "initializing the application". I have to use Force Quit to clear it as it won't progress beyond this point.

Same here. Works fine on my macbook pro though. In win7 i have the same problems. All Ableton keeps doing is sending me replies, saying it is caused by a certain vst. Next time, they send mail with the message that it is some other plugin, and the last time they even said it was Maschine. But it also happens when i select no plugins at all, and simply use 2 or 3 tracks with some simple clips. And when it stalls, i have to restart my wholesystem to even get it working again....

Hey folks, my machine was being extra dongy and doing this too, I figured out a way to fix it on my end.

    Go to /Library/Audio/Midi Drivers/

Delete any old midi drivers you are currently not using (for me it was some old NI midi driver, and a few others random bits for Line-6, RME devices, etc.).

For safe-keeping I made a folder and zipped my old drivers in there so i could keep around something potentially important or if something is needed later.

    Hope this helps yall!

Thank you for all your input. I have found a solution that works for me. Unplug my Oxygen 61 keyboard (USB cable) and then start Live. Live starts in 6 secs. But also has something to do with my USB external HD (OWC 12 Terr), I sometimes need to turn it off, then unplug keyboard,  start Live, Quit Live, remount ext HD, launch Live then plug in keyboard.

    HTH someone.

    Hi guys,

With performance problems such as these, please contact our Support at support@ableton.com and attach a Status Report. You can generate such a Status Report by selecting "Get support..." from Live's Help menu. There are various symptoms discussed in this thread, and they are not likely to be tied to one common issue - therefore, our Support will best be able to help you by looking into your set-up.
