License Questions
The standard Live license allows you to use Live on only one computer at a time. If you have registered your product, the Ableton server will, however, provide you with two Unlock Keys in good faith that you will use Live on only one machine at a time. You can, therefore, run Live on both a studio desktop computer and a tour laptop, but not at the same time. If you are using a Macintosh and switching back and forth between OS 9 and OS X, you can unlock Live on both systems.
You can find all the details about your rights as a licensed owner of Live in our End User License Agreement.
You can install Live on two of your own computers if you have registered your serial number on our registration page and you will not be using both computers at the same time.
If you want to run Live on several machines simultaneously, you can purchase each additional license for half the price of a standard full version. If you send us your address, your registered Live serial number, your credit card data (including expiration date and CSC code) and what you want to order, we can process your order right away. Please write to customercare@ableton.com or send a fax to 0049 30 288 763 269.
You can install Live on two operating systems if you have registered your serial number on our registration page and if you will not be using both installations at the same time.
Note that the latest MAC OS 9 Live version is Live 4.14.
Below is our policy on this issue.
Do not sell your old Live 1, Live 2, Live 3 etc., license after upgrading: It means selling your entire Live license!
From the License Agreement:
No transfer: Licensee may not rent, lease, sublicense the materials, on a temporary or permanent basis. Licensee may, however, transfer all his/her rights to use the Materials to another person or entity, provided that Licensee uninstalls the Software from his/her computer, does not retain any backup copy of their Software and transfers this agreement with the Materials.
This means:
The seller is transferring the Live license, which includes all versions, serial numbers, future upgrade possibilities and rights to use the software. A Live owner cannot, for instance, sell Live version 1.x and retain use of version 2.x, version 3.x, version 4.x or future releases, since they are all under the agreement of a single license.
The seller and buyer must contact Ableton in order to transfer ownership:
The seller must contact Ableton and provide all serial numbers and registration information. This information will be deleted and become invalid; this is necessary in order to complete the transfer of ownership to the buyer.
The buyer must contact Ableton and provide all of his/her registration information in order to complete the transfer of ownership from the seller.
If the seller's latest version is an educational version, the buyer also needs to meet the requirements for purchasing an educational version. In other words, the buyer must provide Ableton with proof of his educational status (a copy of his student or lecturer ID together with a copy of his photo ID or an official confirmation from the school or university).
Please send the information required above to customercare@ableton.com
