zip file for you wingers with 10.4.11 + new airport update

Post by timothyallan » Sat Apr 05, 2008 3:25 am

This works for everyone I've found on 10.4.11 who installed the 2008 01 airport update and now gets crackly audio. All it does is roll back to the 2007 04 update which works fine.

No more whinging - your file fixed it - cheers!

One note of warning, I had to do a "Repair Permissions" after overwriting the file. If I don't do that, my whole airport is broken after restart. With the "Repair Permissions" the new file works beautifully.

Thank you!

:D

(Nice tunes btw)

This update didn't really worked for me: I did the following:

1- Downloaded the old Airport file from the link provided
2- Went to System/Library/Extensions and found the respective file to be replaced (IO80211Family.kext)
3- Dragged the downloaded and old IO80211Family.kext file to the extensions folder to replace the latest 2008 version.

Once I´ve done this i ´had no Airport connection. It says it was improperly installed. Anyway to revert back to the previous state??

Many thanks

Please try "Repair Permissions" from the Disk Utility and then do a restart. Did that work?

MacBook Pro 2.0 and Mac OS 10.4.11 here.
I replaced the IO80211Family.kext and repaired permissions, then did a reboot.
All my audio apps are now working fine except for Live 6.0.10.
I tried the 7.0.3 demo and the crackles persist.
Turning off Airport as support suggested (the above procedure was also hinted) didn't do it for me.
I guess I'll never update again when all is working fine.
Should have learned that long time ago :|
MacBook Pro 2.0, 2 GB RAM, Mac OS 10.6.8, Live 7.0.18, etc.

Ha! Glad it helped!

Just remember, according to internet licensing, you have to buy one of my tracks off Beatport or pass on the link for each fixed computer or two tracks for a dual CPU motherboard. I didn't make that rule up, that's the LAW OF TEH INTARNETS!

Did you do the repair permissions thing mentioned earlier?

yes, i repaired permissions, worked for a bit (which is when i wrote my happy replay), then restarted and WHACK, no airport.

i just now reinstalled the april 2008 update to see if i could get the airport working again.

but nope, on restarting i still get the "improperly installed extension" message.

i found an ethernet cable and am sitting here next to the fridge where the cable comes into the building!

well, i'm glad i waited.

i had a show last week (at NASA yuri's night) and considered doing the update the day before. but i reminded myself that was idiotic and waited until this week.

maybe i'll be more productive now that i have to sit on the floor next to the fridge in order to look something up or check my email. and now i have an excuse why i'm not available to ichat with clients!

something else is buggered it sounds like. I've had dozens of people download that patch and only a few errors, all were fixed with repair perms. What if you remove the ktext file and put it somewhere else, then install the new update?
