coolbook fixes low cpu dropouts on macbook core duo 1

Post by evilxsystems » Thu Feb 14, 2008 6:13 am

Ok, I don't have a mac book pro, and I don't have the santa rosa chipset, but a conversation with ableton support lead me to suspect that this thread:

might apply to the weird drop-outs I was having at low cpu levels on my macbook core duo (original 2ghz). The ridiculous thing was I didn't even have to buy coolbook to fix the problem (although I did anyway because it made me so damn happy, and I wanted all its features, and hey it's only 10 bucks).

Clearly the problem is that Live or OS X isn't properly speed stepping the CPU, so the dropouts happen as the processor is stepped up from 1002mhz or 1503 mhz up to 2003mhz. Crazily enough, you don't have to configure coolbook to fix the problem, just crank up the cpu load level in the demo version until your processor stays at it's maximum clock speed. Whatever this is doing doesn't actually tax the processor, because guess what....your Live sets will no longer have audio dropouts....crazyness...I really wish apple or ableton could figure out what is specifically causing this weird behavior, but in the meantime buy coolbook!
