Native Instruments Audio 8 dj, anyone?

Post by rolfski » Wed Dec 12, 2007 9:20 am

Aside from NI's AK1, does anyone have experience with this device in particular?

Would you recommend it for music production and laptop dj-ing?
How does it sound quality wise compare with my current M-audio Audiophile 2496?

Btw for what it's worth, it won an award by DJmag:

i can say it's really really good, especially for live acts where a dj mixer is used ..

it's not as flexible routing as on my motu ultralite though, no utility like cue mix .. another real downer for those of you who need it is that there is no phantom power on the mic input

i use my ultralite permanently installed in the studio and audio8 for traktor scratch and live acts with ableton live and for that it's really good

ak1 & ak8 are fantastic audio-interfaces. the best thing about them are the cirrus-logic-d/a-converters.

the sound is fuckin' brilliant & you have full pressure in the club!
regards,
thom

I have the card for a month now and it absolutely rocks! Sick latency and audio quality, lot of ins/outs, very rugged build quality.
I actually bought the Traktor Scratch system that comes with it because of the offer to freely upgrade to Traktor studio. Its's fun to use! Absolutely great tracking and I love that SL 1200 feeling when mixing digital.

I'm thinking now of making a single pc dj set up, combining Traktor Scratch/Studio using time coded vinyl & Ableton in midi sync while using my soon to arrive Pioneer DJM 800 as a mixer & midi controller.

Does anyone have experience using Traktor, Ableton, the Audio 8 dj and the DJM 800 together?

One, albeit small, drawback of the Audio 8 dj is that it doesn't have digital outs, which of course would be nice considering that the DJM 800 has digital ins.
