Live 2.12 Rewired into DP3.11 crashes

I've just created a new volume on one of my disks and clean installed all of my music software and my OS (listed below). And I still have this pesky problem.
If I go into DP and set up a Live aux track, and then start Live, everything works OK. I can start and stop playback from Live or DP
BUT if I set up a record enabled track in DP, and then start Live, I can start and stop in DP with no problem. However, if I switch to Live and stop or start, or even start by clicking a clip, 1) my system freezes immediately, 2) force quit won't work, 3) after I reboot, DP asks me if I want to recover files lost because of the crash. When I audition these take files, most of them are from other projects, and are copies, so if I delete them, nothing bad happens.
A few other people have posted seeing this problem. MOTU tech support thinks it's a rewire problem. Ableton tech support suggested using the 2.12 version. So far it's still there and consistent. By the way, Reason 2.5 seems to be OK as far as transport problems go.
