Resolution of recorded CCs is too low

Post by earwax » Wed Apr 11, 2007 1:57 pm

I've been playing with some MAX patches automating Live's devices with CC data (on pc with midiyoke).
It's all good as long as i'm not recording them, but when recorded, Live interpolates or smoothes the data to unrecognition !
A medium paced lfo turns into a straight line, and most of the data is lost...

I've tried bumping threads priority and stuff in vain, i've also tried different CC modes (7 and 14 bits)...
Also i don't have a midi controller, so i couldn't figure out if teh same happens with hardware.

Is there something i can do, or that's a design problem ?

cheers

Hi, I have an idea of something you can try!

http://www.teragon.org/wiki/index.php?title=Options.txt
in this document the options.txt file is described. If you scroll down through the list you'll see this entry:

Code: Select all

MidiEventThinning
I would try making the options.txt file, and put this code in it:

Code: Select all

MidiEventThinning 0
-if that doesn't work then [MidiEventThinning off] or similar.
Let us know how you fare.

Andreas.

YAY, thanks machinate, i had no idea about that stuff !!

I added this (not sure about the second one though), and the curves are now quite precise !

-MidiEventThinning=0
-ThinningAggressiveness=0

Cheers

Congrats, man.

holy cow, does this mean you can now have automation points that actually jump possition recorded properly? I use my kaoss pad to control stuff in live and you can jump possitions all over that thing and it always curves out my recordings.

How can i nav-to that page ? Can't find it by going to any of the sections on Abes FAQ page...

Also, what was in this wiki that I missed while it was alive?

And mostly, Mahinate... please tell me that you didn't guess the phrasing for "MidiEventThinning" and that it was part of the extinct wiki.

Could any of the Options.txt file be used to smooth out the action of the Pad Kontrol's knobs?

No idea, found it via google searching site:ableton.com Options.txt

The wiki had some really cool stuff. The options.txt article had a huge list of commands to input in there. There were some great articles on dummy clips, creating lessons and lots more. Don't think it got a lot of updates after live 6's release, but it still had some great info.
