Comes with a neat cd with free Live packs.

"We’ve picked the brains of Ableton’s most experienced developers, technical wizards and the most fanatical Live users in the universe to put together this highly focused and unique guide. It’s packed with all-time favourite tricks, new techniques for version 6, troubleshooting advice, advanced hacks and more. The cover CD comes with two exclusive Live Packs. The first, produced by Ableton, features kicking percussion and atmospheric pads from electronic maestro Dennis DeSantis. The second is an extreme sound collection for Live 6 courtesy of TrackTeam Audio."

Very true, there are a lot of articles on Live in CM, but they're generally good for beginners.

Unfortunately, the files for the tutorial "Complete Track" in the Insiders Guide is missing a ton of samples. Looks like they forgot to do a "Collect All and Save". Oops!

Like last year's edition, I can recommend it for the cd content alone. Wether your're an expert or not.

What I find particulary interesting is the official Live reaction at the end of the magazine on the most requested missing features as it will give some insight in what we can expect in Live 7.
I predict for Live 7:
Tempo nudge: in
Scissors: not in
DJ-friendly (multiple) wave form display: in
Warp disable at certain points: maybe in
Side chaining: in

I also like the Ableton vs forum members advanced tips and tricks section

I picked it up yesterday, and thumbing through it looks like it should be pretty helpful for a relative beginner like me. A couple of annoying and frustrating things, though:

+ Many typographical errors that make a copy editor like me squirm.

+ The CD-ROM is not intuitively organized and it takes a while to figure out what is what, even after referencing the descriptions in the magazine.

+ I made it to page 17--part way through the first tutorial--only to find myself unable to complete the tutorial as directed because they assume the user has the EIC (I don't) and don't offer any alternative suggestions for instruments to use or even an idea of what a particular patch sounds like. I then tried to load the completed lesson Live sets and it didn't work because of missing samples (EIC?) and certain 3rd party effects being referenced as audio units instead of their vst versions, thereby excluding PC users.

I still think it will prove helpful for me in learning to use Live in ways I haven't yet, but it seems like the release was rushed and some details overlooked. Not what I'd expect for the US$16 I paid for it.

It's been out for almost a month. Hit the shelves with the FSOL issue.

I thought the previous one for Live 5 was better. Most of the content seems to be culled (at least guided) from this forum, actually. The whole issue could have been reduced to a single page with http://www.ableton.com/pages/forum in the middle.

(Plus, how could they have a Live 6 issue and not mention the unofficial but compulsory nerd/geek emailer custom splash screen?)
