Thought I'd start a threat about vista compatibility with soundcards. I couldn't get my mbox to work, so if anyone knows of any vista compatible sound cards or has a working/not working status to report, lets perhaps try to use one thread so we can best utilise the knowledge.

So here's my first contrib...

2nd October - Mbox (original) wavedrivers do not currently seem to work
Realtek - generic in board sound card seems fine

Fast Track Pro USB from M-Audio work fine, just need before run installer select the installer run with compatibility for XP and run like admin.

Driver work correctly, the M-AUdio control panel not work ok, form now i cant find way to change FAST TRAK PRO from 44.1 to 48khz, or make work in 16 or 24bits due control apnel not work.

ASAP i try with asio4all, and back with info.

Tested on WINDOWS VISTA RTM
Imac intel core duo 1.83
2gb ram
GMA graphic.

M-Audio delta 44 worked without installing drivers...believe it was comewhere around Build 5270 never tried to install a sequencer or anything, but im sure the windows sounds worked fine.

M-Audio Firewire Audiophile works fine, although you do have to run the driver installer in XP compatible mode for it to install...... Control Panel works fine too

Edirol PCR-1 XP driver 1.01 works in Vista RTM build 6000. Performance of the ASIO driver is pretty bad on my 2GHz Core Duo Acer laptop. But it does work as does DX/WDM and MIDI. DX/WDM performance is similarly poor.

The XP 1.01 driver was from the Edirol.com site.
The XP driver labeled 2.00 on the Roland.com site did not install successfully.

Next I need to test my M-Audio ProjectMix I/O and another Edirol interface. I will post results here.

I've been unable to get the M-Audio ProjectMix I/O to work under Vista RTM (build 6000).

I tried installing the current M-Audio FireWire Family drivers (5.10.00.5036 and 5.10.00.5036v2) in XP compatibility mode and that allows them to install, but computer doesn't seem to be able to detect the ProjectMix. This computer works fine with the ProjectMix running XP.

M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96 (PCI) will install with XP SP2 Compat. mode. Control Panel works, etc, but get errors trying to play back sound.

Any workarounds for this? Or a generic driver I can use? For the moment I'd just like to playback music, I'll deal with Live later (just installed Vista RTM a few hours ago, a bit surprised at the lack of available driver support for a lot of things).

Hal- I understand your frustration. More below...

A few things to add here..

First, I'm kinda uncomfortable with the "official" name of this forum. I'm a product specialist for M-Audio and moderate this forum hoping to be able to provide some support for our customers and our dealers. I would be acting beyond my capacity if I spoke officially on behalf of M-Audio. However, I can provide information and support. My point here is yes, it is always better to contact the M-Audio team directly with any questions or concerns. Especially since I only have time to be on the board about once every week or so.

Second, MS released an intermediary OS, Windows XP64. It was meant to help transition into Vista. M-Audio has had beta drivers for our Delta series cards and other interfaces on Windows 64 posted for quite some time now. I don't know if the drivers will work with Vista, but I think it shows we are dedicated to pursuing future technologies and keeping legacy devices functional as long as possible. However, that does not mean every one of our products will be supported with every future OS release. The nature of the industry is such that that would be impossible. I don't have any information on what will or won't be supported in Vista. However, you can rest easy that we do take this serious and we are not being lazy.

Third, pre-release operating systems change. This is why they are pre-release. While I have less experience with this with Microsoft, as they are usually a bit slower to release a new OS, Apple does it all the time. We won't have complete versions of the OS until the day it is released. A driver may be functional on the pre-release OS, but, because of a last minute change by Apple, will be buggy on the final version. While the cycle is not the same in the case of Windows, it is similar.

I hope this clarifies things a bit.

I own M-Audio - AP 192 & USB MobilePre soundcards and neither work with Vista. I guess these will go to eBay because they are no good for me. M-Audo tells me nothing when I email them. What about people that are buying new computers? This has to be bad for M-Audio and I certainly will buy no more from them. I'm going with a company that cares about their customers.
