Hi All,

I installed Live 6, upgrade from 5.2.2 on Mac Intel 17 inch Laptop 10.4.8 OSX 2.16 GHZ, 2 gig ram. MOTU 828mk2.

Plugins include Uni Bin versions of Pluggo and Augustus Loop only.

Live 6 is constantly crashing, seems to be when ever I want to set inputs and output preferences within Live 6, and uninstalling the Live Packs (dont need them).

Other random crashes are occuring. I have had no problems at all with previous 5.2.2 on my system.

I tossed the prefernces, rechecked the location of the library install, and all looks fine

Any ideas, thanks in advance.

Usual hints...you repaired permissions, done any Disk Warrior, reset PRAM etc? OK pre-10.4.8?

p.s. you checked here? http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=752

Hi, yep done you suggestions, still having problems.

Installed 10.4.8 yesterday, and updated Live to 6 today, so no way of knowing if Live would be stable on old OS. Been running 5.2.2 with no problems on old and new Mac OS......... cheers

I was Sooooo close to hitting install when update opened......

UNTIL i saw the 10.4.8 in there.

I learned that lesson back in panther.

If your rig is werkin' and want to keep it werkin' don't update.

My only suggestion is to trash permission's on all related audio app's on your machine....Secure empty trash.......repair perm.(again) ..logout......restart......PRAY

nasedo, you metion you reinstalled your Mac OSX. Do you mean Live 6 or the Mac OS ? In anycase, thanks to you all for the advice. Its strange Live 6.0 is the only app thats seems to be having problems under OS 10.4.8. Will look into permissions today, cheers

It seems to be Pluggo thats crashing Live 6.0. Is anyone else using Pluggo in a similar set up ? cheers

Hi all, well its not Pluggo after all. I deinstalled Pluggo worked for a bit, and now contstant crashes on quit, and audio pref set up and general instability. Strangley I can record and loop music no problems.

To make things worse, I installed Live 6 on my gigging G4 Powerbook and Live wont even boot without crashing !

Does anyone out there have a stable Mac OS X Live 6 set up ?

By the way, Live 5.2.2 is rock solid on both machines.......

I cant believe Live 6 could be so flacky on both my machines, any ideas?

cheers

Have you tried moving your whole vst or au folder temprarily to see if anything in there's responsible? I've found that some NI plugs don't like to be in folders and having Reaktor surround/multi-out versions even present in the plugins folder crashes my OS every time I just have built-in (2 in/out) selected as I/O. You'll have to start eliminating possibilities.

I bought Live 6 today and I am having the same problem on my Macbook- Everytime I try to change my i/o configuration Live unexpectedly quits. I do not have Pluggo or any NI plugs on this machine, so that's not the problem here. Also, I'm only on 10.4.7. Thus far I've been unable to use Live, as I can't set up my input channels.

Edit: I only have 2 plugins, but one of them is Augustus Loop (which I just noticed in your post). I wonder if this could be the problem? I hope not, because at this point I'm only using Live on this machine as a glorified mixer for my guitar and 4 tracks of Augustus.

Further investigation and some quick help from Ableton support has definitely narrowed this problem down to Augustus Loop (removing it from my system solves the crash). Very unfortunate, but hopefully they'll find a solution.

Hi,

Os here, developer of Augustus Loop.

I've been able to reproduce this Live 6 crash when trying to change audio configs, and I'm talking to Ableton about it. I'd love them to fix this soon, since I use Live and Augustus a lot in my music - this is preventing me from upgrading right now.

For me, the crash happens under 10.4.7 and 10.4.8.

cheers,
os.
