Footcontroller confusion with live looping setup

Post by freddie » Wed Sep 06, 2006 7:07 pm

Hi all,

Yesterday i read this VERY interesting topic:
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 5ca055d49c

I want to start live looping using conventional instuments: elec guitar, bass, voice Wink...

So far i set up Live (see included screenshot).
I have two loop slots and three scenes: verse, chorus and bridge.

I do not yet have a footcontroller and am planning to buy one that suits me best.
I checked several foot controllers: from behringer, rocktron midi mate, rocktron all access, kid beyond's Ground Control.

What do i need?
I want to record a clip / start and stop a clip (makes two footswitch buttons)
I have max 6 clips; makes 12 footswitches.
I want to launch scenes: verse, chorus and bridge: makes another 3 switches (totals 15)
I want a tap tempo / stop all clips (makes 17 switches)
And it would be great if i can switch some Live effects on/off.

So if i total: more than 17 switches: aarghh....
I haven't found any pedal controller board that many....
Or is there another workaround?

I am looking forward for your advice!

Best,
Fred

Check it:
Set Global Quanitse to 'X' (1, 2, 4 measures probably)
Stop Live
Start a clip recording by clicking on it.
Click on the SAME SPOT right away - this will stop the recording once the 'X' quantise is met and put the loop into PLAY mode.

Using that, you can cut down on the number of buttons by half, one button per clip. Because they'll go into play mode you may want a track on/off button for each track.

The Behringer FCB1010 seems to be the most popular and I don't think there's been a single complaint about it.

Hi Deadlykungfuman,

Yup nice approach.
I would still need:
6: for clip noodling
3: for scene select (verse, chorus, bridge)
1: tap tempo
1: stop all the stuff
not to mention the very fine idea of switching effects on/off.... :P

Lets say we go for no effects switching:
makes 11 switches.

Are you absolutely sure the Behringer does all this?
I see 12 buttons on the machine, but do they do the things i want them to do ;-)

Best,
Fred :P

yes it can do that, you can see 12 buttons but thats just one bank, press up or down & you got another 12, then another 12, then another 12, the another 12..... (in fact its just 10 really, 2 are always up & down) and they can do anything you want to. Plus the 2 rocker pedals, they're handy for things like changing quantise value, delay feedbacks, filter cutoffs....

Oh my gosh.... so endles clips can be triggered.
Nice :-)

How would you see the Rocktron Midimate vs. Behringer FB 1010?
