midi CC numbers 96-101 & 120-127 missing from live 5.2 .....

Post by HD1 » Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:11 pm

create a midi-clip, and create an envelope ....but CC numbers 96-101 & 120-127 are missing from the pull down menu...why ? ...I wanted to sample a drum machine, and it changes pitch with CC 100 ....but alas live wont record or play this CC number, however when I use a midi controller sending CC100 through a midi channel set to monitor, it changes the pitch of the drum machine....and you can see the 'midi volume' thing light acknowledging its processing the midi from the controller....

anyone know why live 5.2 doesnt record or send envelopes on these CC numbers ? ...has this always been the way ? Cos I've only just noticed it

CCs 98-101 are reserved as registered and non-registered parameter number LSB and MSB. 120-127 are reserved for channel mode messages. Others are reserved for various other parameters.

It's all contained in the MIDI specification.

fair enough, I guess...
but the fact remains these CC numbers could/can still be used for conventional envelopes. are ableton legally bound to not making these CCs available or something ?

I'm just going to create a simple bidule to redirect an envelope to cc100 to continue the sampling ....

thanks for the info hambone

You're right... I don't know why we can't use them if we're not using them for the MIDI spec purposes.

I'm using 60+ CCs for lighting, and had to skip over the unuseable ones.

well..bidule works like a charm, when choosing your CCs it has a little information on each CC and its 'usual' use in most cases....for example, for cc100 it says 'registered' ...but it still lets you do what the hell you like with it!

yes it's unfortunate, but it's been this way since live got midi with version 4. it's a shame with older devices that have fixed CC numbers attached to their controls and use CC 32, 98, 100 and others for normal continuous control. i can only hope that if you and others let ableton know how this affects you, your external gear, and using LIVE personally through email or phone maybe they'll change in a future update.

Now that Bidule can be used as an AU plug-in, it makes solving these little problems a lot easier.
