Some thoughts on Impulse

Post by Poster » Fri Jan 06, 2006 8:57 pm

Sample loading
A browse icon inside every sample slot that behaves like the 'browse preset' function as on all Live devices.. (also for Simpler)

Sample handling
Drag and drop samples between slots and also to Clip slots..

Features
– Sample reverse.. (this is very necessary)
– Set sample to 'Loop Forward', 'Loop Backward' and 'Loop Forward/Backward', controlled by Decay.. (wicked)
– Larger sample start value..
– A LFO for modulation..(random is nice but I rather have a synced LFO)
– An extra choke group..
– Multiple solo's (same as channel mixer)
– Midi and or Key assignable Mute/Solo (nice for jamming/recording)
– Maybe an aux-send for each/some slot(s)?

I too would love better sample handing in impulse and simpler... full drag-and-drop implementation would be nice. Some way of 'viewing' samples in impulse would be cool, but I can't quite think of how I'd implement it.

I would LOVE individual aux sends or something in the way of routing on individual drums in impulse... it would make it a kick-ass drum machine instead of a pretty good one. I always like setting seperated delay times on different drums. It sounds cool! ...and at the end of the day, isn't that we're trying to do? Sound cool?

Uh, impulse has multiple outputs. You can already do it.

suggestion for reversing a sample;

- [alt/option click] on the preview play button in a slot..
- the sample is now reversed..
- the play button icon (triangle) will flip, pointing to the left, visually indicating that the sample is reversed..

would be great..

Don´t know what you exactly mean by this,
there is already the browse icon when you hoover over a slot in impulse,
also in the sample view in simpler.
They both open the new temp browser and show the directory the sample came from.

Real hotswapping is what I´m missing, without having to load the sample.

And a real startpoint adjust, now you can move the startpoint in the sample, but I mean to move the sample itself in time to adjust the phase between the different samples, without having to move the notes themselves.

love ableton but no midi mapping for mute/solo?

Post by chris ott » Thu Nov 30, 2006 2:08 am

that sux. any drum machine both software/hardware i have ever used utilizes mutes and solo on the fly. that is essential to live jamming. How could they just keep forgetting this feature?
