How to create drum racks with layered sounds that arpeggiate in scale while drumming

I have an Alesis Strike Pro kit and a few of the custom kits they have are ones where the sounds are layered in a manner where the drum sound for a particular pad may stay the same but a layered note that is also on that pad arpeggiates within a chord or set scale. This way you can play some pretty dynamic things. How might you set this up in Ableton? Drum Rack with layered sounds so you have an instrument rack nested within it and then? I can see having layers that change with velocity or a combination of things but that doesn't quite seem to be it.... Ideas?
