Network syncing between a G4 ibook and a laptop PC

Hello all,

Been searching for network syncing capabilities but only found how to sync using OSX to OSX. Is it possible to sync over ethernet cables (i.e. not midi)from a PC laptop to an ibook? The PC has an midi soundcard but the ibook is using its own internal soundcard hence no midi interface. I'd rather not buy a midi interface but I guess I have to if there;s no other way.

Any ideas?

There is no way to directly sync MIDI to a PC over ethernet. You need an application such as MIDIOverLAN (mac and PC versions available but costs $130!)

There is also ipMIDI which is a bit cheaper but it is PC only, so it won't help you.

I've been down the etnernet road. Save yourself a lot of grief and get a cheap USB MIDI interface.

Maybe MidiShare is what you are looking for ..

Hi!

Check out this:
http://midishare.sourceforge.net/

It's more than free but open source .. :D

You are not only able to sync Mac OS X with Windows with Linux.
You can create sort of "virtual" midi devices which are connected
over LAN (or WAN ..).

Thanks guys, I think I'll go down the route of buying a midi interface. Seems much easier.

In defense of MIDIOverLAN, I've been playing around with it in a studio. It was bloody amazing. Rock solid, almost no latency what so ever, a snap to set up.

Ran Live on two PCs - sync worked extremely well. But the price...
