I was just rendering a set to disk that's about 60minutes and I keep getting an out of memory error halfway through. I have 1.5gig free space and that file should only be 600mb or so.. do I need nore available hard drive space for the rendering?

ciao

Sure,

Winxp on a Sony Vaio laptop 256mb DDRRAM 1.5gig free HD space. I believe the error said:
"Error out of memory" and froze. I'll double check at home. Session is 2000 bars at 160-180BPM

2 sessions

Hi metrognome32,

I still not sure what the message could really mean. For me it sounds more like an error message related to main memory instead to the harddisk. The more so as you said there's enough free space on the disk.

On the other hand I can never remember getting an "out of memory" message on a windows system cause of the swap file.

Please still tell me which windows version you use. I'll try again to render a file of similiar length but I guess it's more a problem related to the song.

What you could do to test it is to make a song with just one clip, without any effects and render that about 60min. If this is also crashing we know it's a general problem and if not we know it must be somehow related to the song.

Alex

www.iarsn.com to see if the app is going nuts on memory.; also it lets you increase swap size , i'd double it to see if that solves it

Hi ti,

thanks for the link. Maybe it's a good tool to work with in general.

I had this "out of memory" problem while rendering a recorded and edited session from the arranger as well, and this on a 4 minute track ... I loaded the utilty mentionned above and it was the virtual memory that was full apparently due to a particular VST ... however enlarging the virtual memory didn't help in my case ...

BTW, also noted CPU spikes of 91% on the opening of Live 2.0.1 on win2000 (1ghz Athlon - 256 MB RAM)

Hi MBazzy,

do you get it reproduceable? Would be important to know how much is the memory usage of Live before and while rendering watching the Win2000 Task manager.

Alex

win2000 - staudiodsp24mk2- athlon 1ghz-256mb ram

Startup Live

Ram=42%
V.Memory = 14%

Start rendering :

Gradually all the ram & virtual memory gets filled up ....
