Yes usually I have things surge protected, but Not in this instance ..... Anyways kinda sucks

I would like to have some suggestions on a good reasonably cheap interface with good preamps. I don't need more than a few inputs and need phantom power. Preferably powered from the wall not USB.

My old fried interface had 8 inputs but I never used nearly that many

I record instruments and use condenser mics

Focusrite 2i2. Cheap, awesome pres, but no dv power option.

probably just burned the power supply.. maybe a fuse..
if it's a good/expensive interface..get it repaired..

I wouldn't say its a high end, but it does the trick. Phonic Firefly 808.

There is no power supply just 3 prong wire. I don't even think there is a fuse. It turns on.. but when I plug it into the computer it says windows doesn't recognize it.

During the lightening storm it made a horrible noise. lol

Thanks for the suggestion. I was actually looking at te interface Akai makes. Anyone have experience with them. Akai doesn't disappoint me too often (except those funny pads on the mpk 49)

I bought a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 its a very nice interface,powered from the mains too

very pleased with it,great sound and more than that very low latency

I was just talking to my friend about his new Akai EIE Pro. He was very excited about it at first and then he told me he was returning it. He said it's "way too quiet." He's using powered monitors. I haven't used one in person or been able to help him figure out how to boost the output signal, but I thought I'd share his story.

The complaint "it's way too quiet" doesn't quite make sense to me... I'd think that there would be some way somewhere to boost the volume level to pretty much whatever you need it for. In any case he's bummed about it and is going with a MOTU (Ultralite I think).

I am currently looking into a new interface as well and am considering the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6.
