"Dynamic Clip" in Arrangement

A clip that reflects its counterpart (all its changes). Whatever you change in one, is reflected in the others.

I don't remember what it was called back in Cubase sx 1, but it was a cool way of saving repoetitious work.

Something like clip instancing would be great!

This would be great. Cubase still has it today and it's called a Shared Copy. In Logic it's an Alias/Clone.

Yeah this would be great. Similar to the way FL Studio’s Patterns work. Look at Studio One’s implantation of “shared clips” which contain the same MIDI data as others. Maybe a possible options.txt implantation that causes clips with the same name to have their MIDI events mirrored

Yes, I'd love this feature as well! Since live is built around loops, I'm surprised they didn't add this feature already. Once you get into arrangement, and want to make a change to your midi loop that has already become duplicated in many places, it becomes a tedious process with Live. All the big DAWs (Cubase, Logic, etc.) already have it. Hope they can add this in Live 11?

It might be causing some problems, though. I wonder how that is solved in other daws. If you duplicate a clip and modify the second clip, does the original one get modified as well?

They are called alias/ghost clips. There's another thread further down.

This and multiple clip fades should be standard features of every daw imo, but apparently Ableton guys are more interested in giving us exotic synths and effects rather than workflow improvements.

Yes, in other DAWs (such as Cubase and Logic) they've handled it very nicely so it shows the clip visually differentiated (Cubase shows the clip name in italics, and Logic has arrow next to the clip name) where it can either link you back to the original to edit it or allows you to break the link and make it independent. Very flexible! To me, given that Live is all about loops, it would make sense if the arrangement window followed this concept as well, so when a clip is edited in the session view, the arrangement view clips that are clones of it should all follow it and update. This would alleviate a lot of manual updates to clips. If at anytime someone wants a clip to not follow the original, they just unlink it (convert it to an independent clip).

Hard to believe that this post is 6 years away from being 20 years old. :D

Bumping this so perhaps we could get clip instances in 12.1 ;)

Users have been asking for a MIDI-assignable "Pause" button when recording into an arrangement for MORE than 20 years!
