[hardware] advice for a midi+audio interface on firewire ?

I'm looking for an external (and better than integrated audio) audio & midi interface.

I saw an M-AUDIO (this one) but I'm not sure it would be the best one in these prices ... and ex

I need:
- 1 midi IN & OUT
- only 1 Left & Right
- low latency

and of course quality

a price around 300€ would be nice

any suggestions? ideas? advices?

all the best for you,

Another Ultralite vote. Used mine under windows for years with never an issue.

ok Tarekith :)

is this one ?

489€ in France... expensive!
the reverb, the big number of input/output, the features about mixing etc won't be used here I guess...
Are these features all useful to perform live ?

I'd be afraid for buying it on ebay.

I could recommend the echo audiofire 2 or 4.
The 4 hasn't a breakout cable for the midi ports (less hassle) and preamps,
but is a little bigger.
Good quality, I use mine for a long time now and never had a problem.
Well worth a look.

still hesitating...

the presonus as a DB9 for midi (& spdif?) :

strange.

the motu ultralite seems very powerful
but probably too much.
I mean, I don't need as many i/o, fx, EQ etc...
eq could be fine if I gig in little place where there isn't a real sound sys.

.. still thinking :?: :?:

With the Echo Audiofire 4 you are back in your price range and you get regular Midi in/out and spdif connections. That is what I would do in your price range yet I have not owned it before, no direct experience. I have read nothing but good things about echo audiofire and that's why I would make that decision.
I used to own a Motu Ultralite and it is a great box but I was unlucky and had problems with mine (on a mac). The down side to this situation is that I had an awful experience with their tech support. So that is something to consider. These days with my lack of free time for music I now highly value good customer support. When the Ultralite worked for me I thought it was a great interface for the money. There are tons of happy campers with ultralites out there.
