why wouldn't i?

i only compare current computers to current computers... because comparing a current computer to some computer that is still 7 months away from being available isn't very fair. of course the computer in 7 months will be faster... technology advances with time.

anyways, even laptops that aren't as fast as current desktops are typically faster than the desktops of 2 years ago. And it wasn't like people couldn't record and produce great music 2 years ago, right?

OK question here. AJ and others, are you running the test with an AC cord or battery powered?

both with AC and battery.

I can confirm that when nothing else is running, I'm getting the higher numbers - 40-42%, but if I start ripping a CD in iTunes, the numbers drop to 29-30%.

the macbook performs as good as a dual G5 2.5ghz

Adam,

this is a very interesting statement. Did you do actual comparisons there, or can you point me to audio sites that did? With Live, Logic etc....

And are you going to connect the Cinema Display to the MacBook? Possibly with an external keyboard?

This is what I did. I just sold my dual-core 2.3 G5 and my old powerboook G4. Now I have both worlds consolidated perfectly in both performance and portability. I'm connecting my MacBook pro to a 30" cinema display which also acts as a dock for an external keyboard, mouse, and my MOTU Traveler. I just plug it and its not much different that with my G5 (except the MBP runs alot quieter in my studio). I can also close the lid for large single desktop, or keep it open an use both displays. Its a really ideal setup.

So does the Macbook stay on when you close it all the way?
How about graphic performance, that huge display must tax the internal graphics chip quite a bit?

How does your work with the Macbook differ from what you did on the G5, in terms of performance and reliabilty in Logic and Live?

I'd really love to know!
