Bidule and Live: tempo-sync to host

Post by raapie » Tue Nov 18, 2003 11:10 am

Bidule and Live work nicely together but I would be happy to find out how to sync Reaktor to Live using Bidule. How can I setup Bidule so it will sync to Live through Rewire?

see : www.mts.net/~mathers/FAQ_Index.html
(aka www.bidule-faq.tk)

look at the "How do I synchronize VST plugins or bidules to the host tempo?" question

but I can't get it to work. I tried it with NI Intakt, Kontakt, FM7, Reaktor... looks like Bidule cannot get sync from Live when running a rewire-slave.

if you have a Bidule-file, please let me know. I am very much interested to find out if it's possible!

Hi raapie,

Bidule should indeed be able to get sync from Live when slaved via ReWire.
The trick is, you have to do so manually. Could you check this list to make sure you've done the following:

a) Launch Live, and load up the Plogue Bidule Device as a track's input.
b) Launch Bidule.
c) Load Reaktor into Bidule.
d) Note the little m# next to the ReWire device bidule representing Live. This means that Live can be a master tempo for synching plugins.
e) Right-click the Reaktor bidule, and select Sync to > ReWire device.
Reaktor should now show an s# next to it, indicating that it is synched.
f) Connect all the audio outputs from Reaktor to the ReWire bidule as appropriate.

This should work under most situations. Had you maybe missed any of those steps?

Also, there are a couple of other things that might cause sync problems with Reaktor:
1) Make sure your copy of Reaktor is up-to-date. Older versions of Reaktor 3.x had issues with Bidule.
2) What is your audio buffer size set to in Live? Bidule sometimes has problems working with ReWire masters using audio buffers that are not a power of 2 (e.g., 256 samples, 512, 1024, etc.).

Hope this helps,
-K

Now that I think about it, I believe that the buffer problem only occurs on the Mac platform. Raapie... are you using OSX or Windows?

Mbazzy...

thanks a lot for this information. yes, right clicking was the trick... so simple

I use 256 for my RME at the moment, should be possible to run it lower but it works fine for me this way. PC I use: a extremely fast Sony Vaio (Centrino 1.5) so I am able to run FM7, Reaktor (version 4.03.5 by the way), Intakt, Absynth2, B4 and Kontakt all at once :P oh and Reason as well locked by Rewire2 :P

there are a couple of instability issues with Bidule still, but it's a beta so that's logical. Native Instruments plugs are not rock solid, so this might be tricky as well sometimes (Intakt seems to drift in tempo a little bit for example and it crashes Bidule when I first load it, need to restart Bidule and then it works...).

but I am very happy with this! I can now record eveything as audio into live instead of MIDI sequencing. great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love to find out how to send in bug-reports and things like that. maybe I should ask David Viens since I already had a bit of contact with him.

Bidule: revolutionairy stuff!

Yay! :D Glad to hear things are working out now, raapie.

I definitely recommend sending instability issues and bugs to Plogue as soon as you can. The software is still in beta, true, but the guys from Plogue won't be able to solve issues unless users actually report them.

I suggest sending bugs in an e-mail to support @plogue.com. In my experience in dealing with Plogue, that seems to be where they like receiving them the most. You can also post bugs and such to the Bidule phorum, on the Plogue web site. That should also get you quick response.

Have fun with Bidule! 8)

I joined the board. There are a couple of issues. The biggest one at the moment is with NI Intakt for me.
